Putting your health first:

Our Top 10 Health-wise Tips for 2019

After a long month of festivities in December, it is understandable that our bodies need some TLC to recover to their optimal health. Here at the Dripclub, we consider health to be more that just the absence of disease. From our perspective, health involves leading a balance lifestyle that allows you to consistently perform at your best, both mentally and physically. Implementing daily habits that support energy levels, detoxification and immunity are at the core of better health.

With this in mind, here are our top ten tips for putting your health first this January.

1. Start your day right with lemon and hot water

Lemons are bursting with Vitamin C, a vitamin that can also assist in protecting your cells from free radical damage. Hot water assists in stimulating your digestion, helping your body process any undigested food from the day before.

2. Prioritise sleep

Sleep is when your body is rebuilding itself so it can function optimally for the new day. Your brain is carving out new pathways to assist with memory, performance and emotional stability. While you are asleep, your body is restoring heart and blood vessels, balancing hormone levels, and fortifying your immune system.

3. Take care of your gut

4. Empower yourself

Ultimately, the choices you make moment to moment determine your overall state of wellbeing. This month, take the time to learn about your body and align yourself with a health professional that can assist you with beginning this life-long journey.

5. Get more Vitamin D

In Australia, 30% of adults have Vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is derived from the sun, it is not something our bodies can generate and we cannot get it from food. It is a vitamin that is vital in maintaining bone health and assists in the chemical processes that regulate calcium blood levels. If you lead a lifestyle that does not allow regular sun exposure, or you are conscious of skin damage that can result from UV rays, Vitamin D can be obtained via the use of supplements or IV infusions.

6. Move your body in a new way

Our bodies were made to move. It is important to find a form of movement that you enjoy and find purpose in. This month, try a new class or sport. Many gyms or studios have free or reduced trial periods. Take advantage of this so you can find a form of movement that feels good.

7. Try cooking something new

Get creative in the kitchen! After a month of indulgence in December, a good way to get back on track is allowing time to prepare healthy meals at home. They do not have to be Instagram worthy, but by cooking at home, you are in control of what you eat and you may find a sense of gratitude when you sit down to a meal that you have made with your own two hands!

8. Reacquaint yourself with nature

Summer is a great time to get outdoors and explore. There is mounting evidence that increased time in nature can have multiple benefits for our mental and emotional wellbeing. This month, make a commitment to going to the beach regularly, or having a picnic in a national park.

9. Explore mindfulness

A buzz-word these days, mindfulness has many meanings. Take the time to educate yourself about what it means to be mindful and how you can implement some tools into your daily life. A great place to start is by downloading the app ‘Headspace’ and trying their free trial. Mindfulness has been shown to reduce stress levels, increase self-compassion and improve focus.

10. Take care of your liver

The liver is an organ that has many functions. More notably, it detoxifies harmful substances, stores vitamins, iron and glycogen, as well as processes old blood cells and bacteria, just to name a few! Over the festive season, it is likely that over-indulgence has resulted in your liver being heavily burdened. This month, give your liver some TLC by reducing the intake of alcohol and processed foods, opting for warm teas, fresh herbs and lots of leafy vegetables!
